Urgent - membership scam warning

26th July, 2019

Important and urgent

About this time last year, a number of FICPI members received emails purporting to be from me which asked for their urgent assistance for another FICPI colleague. These emails did not originate from me and were fraudulent. With the kindness and collegiality that characterises FICPI members, some of them took time to respond to the emails in the mistaken belief that they were genuine. A few even sent money, which I deeply regret.

Unfortunately the same thing seems to be happening again. Today, I have already heard from some members of the FICPI Family asking me if emails they have received are genuine. At least one so far has tried to give assistance. I am sending this message through as many social media channels as I can to alert as many FICPI members as possible of this illegal activity.

We will try to identify those responsible, but given the nature of this kind of thing I am not optimistic that we will ever trace the origin of the scam.

Please ignore any messages of this kind that you may receive, and please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

I copy below a sample of the kind of email received for your reference.
