Official Visits - FICPI Membership Growth Efforts
A high priority initiative of FICPI’s new Strategic Plan is membership growth. As part of that extremely important undertaking, FICPI contacted the Association of Intellectual Property Firms (AIPF) to discuss potential cross-promotion of the two organisations and as an effort to increase awareness among IP practitioners of FICPI, globally and especially in the United States. The contact led to FICPI becoming a Silver Sponsor of the AIPF’s 2018 Annual Meeting held in Chicago from 26-28 September 2018; having a sponsor table at the meeting and distributing FICPI marketing material to the attendees; and the new president of the Membership Commission, Barry Graham, making a presentation to the attendees on what FICPI is, what it does, why one should join, and how to join.
Barry met the newly elected president of AIPF, Brett Lunn, to discuss possibilities of cross-promotion of the two organisations. Barry also met and discussed FICPI with over half of the attendees during breaks in the daytime legal education presentations and during the social/networking evening events. The Annual Meeting attracted 83 attendees from 65 law firms in 24 countries, the majority being from the U.S.
The Membership Commission intends to pursue further the possibility of cross-promotion of the two organisations. A major difference between the two is that the members of AIPF are law firms whereas, of course, FICPI’s members are individuals.
