13th February, 2019
On 31 January 2019, shortly before the start of the Bureau and CET meetings in Lisbon, the President and other members of the FICPI Bureau were pleased to meet the President and member of ACPI’s board of directors; Joao Pereira de Cruz, Ana de Sampaio, Joao Jorge, and Antonio Corte-Real.
During a fruitful meeting, a number of aspects of Portuguese patent and trademark law and practice were discussed. In particular, ACPI explained the advantages of the Portuguese provisional patent application system, especially lower official fees. As for trademark matters, a new law has been approved and there are now a few months to its implementation. Portugal will be one of the EU member states that is introducing trademark cancellation actions at the Patent and Trademark Office (PIPO).
A number of administrative matters relating to the Portuguese Association’s membership of FICPI were discussed. Both sides resolved to strengthen the bridge between the two organizations, for example looking at ways for ACPI to benefit from FICPI’s work and possible collaboration in future seminars.
