Resolution of the Executive Committee, Turin, Italy
31 March to 4 April 2019
“3D Printed Tissues and Organs”
FICPI
, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys, broadly representative of
the free profession throughout the world, assembled at its Executive Committee held in Turin,
Italy, 31 March to 4 April 2019, passed the following Resolution:
Noting
that improvements in 3D printing technology have led to the possibility of producing
artificial tissues and organs by using living cells,
Recognising
that the 3D printing of such tissues and organs leads to significant advantages,
including providing a solution to the limited number of donated tissues and organs available for
transplantation, and avoiding having to transport such tissues and organs,
Firmly
believing that 3D printed tissues and organs are in fact creations of human innovation,
Emphasising
that 3D printed tissues and organs do not exist in nature,
Urges
legislators and patent offices to consider 3D printed tissues and organs as being eligible
for patent protection.
