Ms. Toni Ashton
Toni is a retired Counsel, Marks & Clerk, which incorporated Sim Ashton & McKay LLP and Sim & McBurney of which she was a partner. When practising, Toni counselled clients in the selection and availability of trademarks, portfolio management, prosecution, policing of trademarks, opposition and related licensing and packaging issues.
Toni has served as the Chair of the National Intellectual Property Committee of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA); as a Board member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and its Executive Committee; as Chair of the Trademark Section of the CET at FICPI; as a member of the University of Akron School of Law IP Advisory Council; as Chair of the Trademark Joint Liaison Committee of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), and is currently the Special Reporter, Trademarks and Designs for FICPI.
In addition, Toni has contributed to LexisNexis publications including Hughes on Trademarks; Intellectual Property/Commercial Transactions, Canadian Forms and Precedents, and Halsburys Laws of Canada: Trademarks, Passing Off and Unfair Competition. She also contributed to IP Benchbook—-Trademarks.
