André Werner was a partner and a senior patent and trademark expert in a mid-sized Swiss Patent Attorney firm for more than 37 years until August 2024. He now continues his professional work in the new founded PATERA-IP AG.
After graduating as mechanical engineer at the ETH Zurich he started his career to become Patent Attorney in a parent IP boutique in 1987 an at the same time took law lectures at the University of Zurich in the context of the regular law studies for 2 years. In 1994 he passed the European Qualification Examination to become a European Patent Attorney. In June 2010 he was elected as a part-time judge at the Federal Patent Court of Switzerland.
André Werner was president of the national association of FICPI in Switzerland (VSP) from 2005 until 2010 and a member of the PMC. Before, he was chairman of the internal group of VSP that reorganized the association in 2004. He is further a member of the bureau of UNION-IP.

Beside his work as patent attorney, André Werner was an active member of the Swiss Air Force as a jet fighter pilot from 1982 until 1998 and later on as mission officer for his squadron. In this role, he gained intensive experience in being part of, leading and managing teams of small but high-qualified team-members and coming to vital decisions even under severe and time-critical conditions.
André Werner was additionally in charge of modifying the principles of partnership from a family-type partnership of a small office into a modern partnership governing a group of offices with multiple locations, after having come to such a decision in the former partnership.
