FICPI is the only international NGO whose membership consists entirely of IP attorneys in private practice.
➡️National Associations
National associations benefit from affiliation to the only international IP non-governmental organisation and contribute directly to FICPI’s work.
- National associations that belong to FICPI remain autonomous and are responsible for admitting their own members.
- Membership of a national association that belongs to FICPI also implies automatic membership of FICPI.
- National associations set their own membership fees.
➡️National & Regional Sections
In countries with enough FICPI members but no eligible national IP association to represent them, members are instead organised under a National or Regional Section.
- Some National and Regional Sections are responsible for admitting their own members.
- Membership of a national or regional section is automatic.
- National and Regional Sections benefit from reduced membership fees.
➡️Global Individual Members
In countries and regions where there is no national IP association that has joined FICPI and no national FICPI section, membership is applied for on an individual basis.
The EXCO has approved a plan to establish and develop new sections in selected countries and regions where there are sufficient members. Under this plan:
- the membership fees for individual members in a country are reduced to the same level as in a national section with ten members for a period of three years;
- at the end of that time it is expected that a new section for that country will be admitted;
- the members in the country concerned sign a memorandum of understanding with the Bureau to agree to work diligently to expand the membership of FICPI in their country and to establish a new section there.
