Every now and then, an individual makes a remarkable contribution to FICPI over a sustained period of years. FICPI's past presidents honour these individuals through the Malcolm Royal Award, named in honour of Malcolm Royal, who served as president from 2000-2003.

Malcolm was an inspirational figure in FICPI, who amongst other achievements was instrumental in setting up FICPI's highly acclaimed patent drafting course, known as the SEAD Course, which still enjoys great success today. Malcolm sadly passed away in 2006. It is fitting that FICPI's past presidents named this Award in his memory.
