The Unified Patent Court (UPC) is a supranational court specialized in patent litigation established under the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPCA), signed by 24 Member States of the European Union.

he Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) of the UPC forms an integral part of the UPC and will provide institutional support for resolving patent and related disputes through mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution methods. With seats in Ljubljana, Slovenia and Lisbon, Portugal, the PMAC will operate in English, French, and German, ensuring broad accessibility for both European and international stakeholders. The Centre is expected to become fully operational in early 2026.

Mediators, arbitrators and expert determinators listed by the PMAC will be available for selection by the parties and will assist them in the settlement of their disputes. Their expertise and commitment to the highest professional standards will help establish the PMAC as a leading forum for the resolution of intellectual property disputes at the international level.

Call for Mediators, Arbitrators and Expert determinators

The PMAC aims to establish itself as a key international hub for the resolution of patent and other intellectual property-related disputes. In accordance with Article 35(4) of the UPCA, the PMAC is required to draw up a list of mediators and arbitrators to support parties in settling their disputes.

On this basis, the Administrative Committee of the UPC adopted the Selection Criteria for Arbitrators at the PMAC and the Selection Criteria for Mediators at the PMAC on 2 July 2025, enabling the launch of this call for expressions of interest.  As the Centre continues to develop, this call seeks to establish its initial list of neutrals ensuring the capacity to handle disputes of varying complexity once the Centre becomes operational. It is open to all candidates who meet the selection criteria, regardless of nationality.

The PMAC is looking for:
