“The importance of cooperation in the IP ecosystem”

FICPI, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys, broadly representative of the free profession throughout the world, assembled at its World Congress and Executive Committee held in Naples, Italy, 13 to 17 October 2025, passed the following resolution:

NOTING that FICPI, at its Cape Town Congress in 2015, adopted a resolution  recognising the importance of the cooperation between the IP5, TM5 and ID5 offices, and emphasising the essential role of user input, particularly from FICPI as a representative of a broad spectrum of users of these offices;

FURTHER NOTING the general theme of “cooperation” at the Congress, and that several sessions at the Congress explored the role and importance of cooperation in various aspects of the IP ecosystem; 

RECOGNISING the growing use of AI in the functioning of IP offices, IP firms and departments and by others in the IP system, and the need to work together to endeavour that the needs of all people in the IP system are met in an environment where factors such as efficiency, cost and speed are of increasing importance;

BEING MINDFUL of the critical importance of diversity and inclusion amongst the users and professionals in the IP ecosystem and the key role of cooperation between those considered to be in different groups;

ALSO BEING MINDFUL of the challenges of ensuring mental wellbeing of all working in the IP ecosystem and the important role of asking questions, listening and empathy towards building trust and better cooperation; 

ENCOURAGE all involved in/with the IP ecosystem to be mindful of their role and contribution in fostering a cooperative environment to build trust and improve the IP eco- system.
