In this session Louis-Pierre Gravelle, our Focus 45 Host, will consider how AI makes spreadsheets smarter with Dr Niti Dewan.

In today’s dynamic IP landscape, legal professionals are responsible not just for managing deadlines, but for coordinating vast, interconnected workflows ranging from patent filings and FERs to oppositions, renewals, and client communication. Traditionally, tools like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets were sufficient for manual data tracking. But not anymore.

The scale and sensitivity of data handled by IP teams today make traditional spreadsheets inadequate. Manual updates are time-consuming, error-prone, and often disconnected from the systems they derive data from. This creates operational blind spots and risks.

Artificial Intelligence is redefining how spreadsheets operate. With AI-powered tools like Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini, spreadsheets can now interpret commands, process data from multiple sources, and generate real-time insights. These aren’t just minor enhancements they are transforming how IP data is reviewed, used, and acted upon.
