For more than 20 years, FICPI has offered students from around the world a unique, high-level training patent drafting training course to teach the preparation of patent specifications and claims. The course is highly beneficial to those who have between one to five years experience in the IP profession and those who wish to improve their drafting skills and practical knowledge of the most commonly used IP systems.
Following the superb in-house training session for FICPI's 2025 Southeast Asia Drafting course (SEAD) held earlier in May 2025 at the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, IPOS International, our tutors are now looking forwards to the correspondence portion of the course in the coming weeks and marking the assignments, as well as the final week’s in-person session at IPOS in November.
This year's course involved a cohort of 19 students and three FICPI tutors:
- Sharon E Crane, of Haynes and Boone, USA
- Simon Roberts of IK-IP Ltd in the UK
- Bill McFarlane, freelance at Madderns Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys in Australia
Many thanks to our IPOS colleagues for their warm hospitality and enthusiastic support of the SEAD course:
- Hui San Lim of the IP Academy at IPOS, who coordinated all the logistics of the course
- Alfred Yip, Director of IPOS International
- Toon Meng Peh, Head of the IPOS IP Academy,
- Soh Hui T, Head of Programmes at the IP Academy.
Our FICPI course coordinators:
Our thanks also to:
- Geoffrey de Kleine of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Canada
- Eric Le Forestier of Hautier IP in France.
