

The biggest event of its kind in Latin America will bring together leading experts in Intellectual Property from the United States, European Union, and the Brazilian government.
The 43rd International Congress of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association (ABPI), which will take place from August 20th to 22nd in Rio de Janeiro, will feature the presence of the most emblematic figures in the world of Intellectual Property. The presentation by executive Kathi Vidal, who holds the top position in the chain of command at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the second-largest patent filing office in the world, has already been confirmed.
Another major attraction of the 43rd Congress, the biggest of its kind in Latin America, is technology strategist Crystal Washington, the keynote speaker for the event's opening. Recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the world's leading futurists, Crystal collaborates with global giants such as Google, Microsoft, and GE, showcasing how technology can drive profits and productivity.
Klaus Grabinski, President of the Court of Appeal at the Unified Patent Court (UPC), will also participate in the Congress. The UPC, composed of judges from all European Union member states, decides on the infringement and validity of European patents.
Etienne Sanz de Acedo, CEO of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the largest organization of trademark owners globally, is another prominent figure in the international Intellectual Property landscape and has also been confirmed as a speaker.
The 60th Anniversary Congress
Under the anchor theme of “Intellectual Property as a Promoter of Social Equality,” the ABPI Congress celebrates the institution's 60 years of existence with unprecedented attractions. During the event, ABPI will host a lunch lecture with Reinaldo Bulgarelli, diversity consultant and former executive secretary of the Forum of Companies and LGBTQIA+ Rights, who will speak on “LGBTQIAPN+ Diversity: Respect for Rights and Inclusive Environments as Promoters of Equity.”
The two plenary sessions, twelve panels, and ten table topics of the event will address the most contemporary issues surrounding Intellectual Property, such as Artificial Intelligence, Technology Transfer, Innovations in Agribusiness, BPTO Independence, and Audiovisual Industry, among others.
At the closing of the Congress on August 22nd, ABPI will announce the winner of the 4th Patent of the Year Award, honoring patents that promote social equality in national and international contexts. The deadline for submissions to participate in the competition is June 30th.
To celebrate 60 years of history, on August 21st, ABPI will host a party at the Sugar Loaf Cable Car Park, treating congress participants to one of the most enchanting views of the Marvellous City.
