Dr Peter Dirk Siemsen

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Peter Dirk Siemsen, FICPI Member of Honour and Elected Member of Council, 1985-1994

A Brazilian lawyer and industrial property agent, Dr Peter Dirk Siemsen began his career in the 1950s and soon became a respected figure both within and beyond the region. A visionary in the IP field.

He built an outstanding professional career at the firm Dannemann Siemsen, contributing to the consolidation of one of the most recognised and important intellectual property practices in Latin America.

He always believed in the role of professionals and association of them. He played an active role in organisations such as ABPI, AIPPI, INTA, AIPLA, LES, amongst many others.

Renowned for his intellectual generosity and his commitment to training new generations of professionals, he was also a mentor to young specialists and a tireless promoter of scholarship and excellence. Outside the professional sphere, he was a passionate sailor, a discipline in which he won national, South American and world titles in the veteran category, as well as serving as an international and Olympic judge.

The legacy of our dear Peter is the intellectual property community he helped to build.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his daughter, our dear Elisabeth Siemsen; to his son Peter Eduardo Siemsen; to his son-in-law Luiz Henrique do Amaral; to the entire team at Dannemann Siemsen, as well as to his family, colleagues and friends at this time of profound grief.

Rest in peace, dear Peter.
