Thomas studied electronics and information technology at the University of Applied Sciences Rosenheim. He gained experience in the field of communication electronics, especially mobile communication, at Kathrein Indochina Co. Ltd., Rosenberger Hochfrequenztechnik GmbH & Co. KG and Siemens AG.
He started his IP career in a renowed Munich IP law firm and has been active in Intellectual Property for more than 10 years.
Since 2011, Thomas is with Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG in Munich, Germany, as an in-house counsel. There, he is taking responsibility for large patent portfolios, trademarks and designs. In his daily business, he is in charge of preparing freedom-to-operate opinions, validity opinions, prior art searches, drafting applications, negotiating agreements and IP due diligence. He is a delegate at the Solution Group Design & MMI.
Also in 2011, he founded the today’s law firm KIMPFBECK where he practices as a German Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney, European Trademark Attorney, European Design Attorney and via 2005/36/EC recognitions temporarily and occasionaly before the IP authorities in Malta, Ireland, Belgium and Austria. Moreover, since 2014 he has been teaching patent law at the Université de Strasbourg.
Thomas’ strengths are: hands-on legal advice, cooperative leadership style and strong electrical engineering knowledge.
