It will review some of the legal challenges posed by different requirements, and will also equip participants with practical strategies to take away.
MODERATOR & Speaker: Clarissa Regler - Winter Brandl (DE)
Clarissa Regler is a Patent Attorney and Head of the IP Department Chemistry & Biotechnology at Winter Brandl in Germany. Clarissa is also a member of the AIPPI Standing Committee Biotechnology and a member of Women-in-IP (e.V.).
She specialises in patent prosecution, opposition and nullity proceedings in the field of biotechnology and chemistry as well as conducting prior art searches, e.g. on patentability, oppositions, third-party observations and FTOs. Her clients are active in the fields of medical technology, food technology, technical chemistry and life sciences, with a focus on inventions for medical uses, nucleic acids and antibodies. In addition to her work at the patent firm, she is in the process of setting up her own company in the field of AI-supported research and assistance in drafting patent applications.
Rana Gosain - Daniel Law (BR)
Rana Gosain is a Senior Partner at Daniel Law. He has worked within intellectual property for more than 30 years. He is an Intellectual Property Agent accredited by the Brazilian PTO and has a Postgraduate Degree in Intellectual Property from the Pontifical Catholic University in collaboration with the Brazilian PTO.
Rana specialises in patents and industrial design and has great experience of handling patents, litigation strategies, validity and infringement studies and providing legal advice. Much of his work focuses on the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology area.
Rana’s current role is to develop the best strategies for protecting and managing IP portfolios. He also advises clients on a broad range of issues related to intellectual property.
Dr Serge Shahinian - Lavery Lawyers (CA)
Serge Shahinian is a partner and patent agent in Lavery’s intellectual property group. He has been practicing in the intellectual property field since 2000, following prior doctoral and post-doctoral training in biochemistry, biology, and genetics.
Serge’s patent practice includes the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical, covering a wide range of related technologies in the health, agricultural, food, environmental and industrial sciences. His practice includes the procurement of patent rights, providing opinions and counselling in patentability, validity and infringement matters, as well as providing support concerning patent matters in litigation, transactions and financing in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.
Serge is presently Vice-President of FICPI Canada and is a member of FICPI’s CET5 Committee on Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals.
