A practitioner‑led, two‑part programme on using AI responsibly in real patent drafting
Budapest | 16 September 2026
Venue: Corinthia Hotel, Budapest, Hungary
The FICPI AI Patent Drafting Masterclass is a two‑part training programme comprising a short preparatory phase designed to ensure readiness, and a full‑day, in‑person drafting Masterclass, designed for patent attorneys who want to develop practical, defensible capability in AI‑assisted patent drafting.
The day is structured to move from shared orientation and professional responsibility, into facilitated drafting sessions tailored by experience level, and then into subject‑matter‑focused drafting exercises.
Unlike webinars or product demonstrations, this Masterclass is built around a structured progression from shared plenary foundations, through hands‑on drafting workshops and side‑by‑side comparison of leading AI patent drafting tools, to candid, independent peer discussion.
To maximise the value of the in‑person sessions, delegates receive advance access to the tools used and complete a small amount of guided preparation in advance..
When and where
The FICPI AI Patent Drafting Masterclass takes place at the Corinthia Hotel, Budapest, and is scheduled immediately before the FICPI 23rd Open Forum.
It is a separate event with its own registration and programme. While timed to be convenient for delegates attending the Open Forum, the masterclass is designed and delivered as a stand‑alone technical training programme, with structured preparation in advance of the in‑person day.

Who should attend
The Masterclass is designed for:
- Practising patent attorneys
- Delegates at any career stage who are already involved in patent drafting
- Attorneys with no prior experience, some experience, or advanced experience using AI drafting tools
The Masterclass assumes a working familiarity with patent drafting and focuses on applying AI tools within established drafting practice.
Delegates are grouped by experience with AI drafting tools rather than by seniority or years in practice, ensuring that the training is relevant, practical, and effective for all participants, with preparatory access and guidance provided in advance of the event.
What you will gain
These outcomes are achieved through a combination of plenary grounding, hands‑on drafting work, tool comparison, and peer discussion, supported by advance access to the tools used in the masterclass and a small amount of guided preparation. By the end of the Masterclass, you will:
- Arrive ready to draft, having already familiarised yourself with the AI tools through structured pre‑training and early access
- Understand how AI drafting tools and large language models operate in a patent drafting context
- Be able to assess confidentiality, data security, data retention, and privilege risks associated with AI tools
- Gain hands‑on experience working directly with each AI patent drafting tool used in the course
- Develop practical drafting workflows rather than relying on isolated prompting techniques
- Be able to compare the strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of different tools when applied to the same drafting tasks
- Leave with an informed, realistic view of how AI drafting tools may (or may not) fit into your own professional practice
AI drafting tools used in the Masterclass
The AI drafting tools used in the Masterclass will be announced shortly and will be drawn from among the current leading AI patent drafting platforms.
The tools are selected to support meaningful, side‑by‑side comparison across realistic drafting tasks, within a structured programme that emphasises workflows rather than isolated prompting. The focus of the Masterclass is on understanding capabilities, limitations, and professional use, rather than on promotion of any particular product.
