We interview Berken IP, the IP law firm operating across Latin America, to find out more about their specialisms, and why they decided to sponsor FICPI.
“We believe that FICPI’s activities, particularly meetings and committee work, provide unmatched opportunities to connect with peers, exchange knowledge and build lasting professional relationships,” explains BERKEN IP Partner, Emilio Berkenwald.
Firstly, our thanks for choosing to sponsor FICPI. Could you tell us what prompted your decision?
Our Partners have been active FICPI members for several years, and becoming a sponsor felt like a natural next step. It’s an excellent opportunity to deepen our involvement with the federation and show our continued commitment to its mission.
We are truly grateful to FICPI for welcoming BERKEN IP as a first-time sponsor!
What do you particularly value from the FICPI community?
We value that the FICPI community is made up exclusively of independent IP attorneys in private practice which are driven by a shared interest to promote solutions and advocacy for private IP practitioners.
The FICPI federation is made up of colleagues around the world who share interests and concerns pertaining to IP, and it is important for us to be connected and be part of this community.
Could you introduce us to BERKEN IP and tell us more about your operations?
BERKEN IP is an Intellectual Property law firm based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a strong focus on patents, innovation, and business. We collaborate with colleagues around the globe and work closely with R&D-driven organisations, ranging from biotech start-ups to research institutes and multinational companies, to protect and strategically manage patents, designs, and trade marks across Argentina and Latin America. Our expertise particularly lies in the life sciences, chemical, and material sciences sectors.

Emilio Berkenwald, could you tell us about your own FICPI membership and the benefits you’ve found from being a member?
I’ve been a FICPI member for a few years now and currently serve on the CET Group 5 (Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals) Study and Work Group.
What stands out to me is FICPI’s emphasis on academic excellence and high-quality training, alongside its dedicated focus on private practice and law firm management.
Being a member has helped me grow both professionally and personally. I’ve built meaningful relationships with colleagues from all over the world, and the sense of community is something I truly value.
And on a lighter note, I’ve greatly enjoyed the social side of FICPI events... especially participating in the Gamification Contest, which I was thrilled to win last year!
